I’ve been getting clogged sinuses recently and I’m pretty sure it from the dust mites in my room.
I’ve bought an air filter and covered all my bedding with dust mites covers and that’s helped a lot, but I was wondering if I should deal with my carpet as well?
My room is small, about 10′x12′, and the carpet is thin and only about 5 years old.
I was wondering if it was possible to cover the carpet with linoleum as opposed to taking everything out of my room, ripping up the carpet, then laying the linoleum.

1Get rid of the carpet all together. It will also help your sinuses if you have problems with them.Battling dust is an every day around the clock chore.I’m in the process of removing all the carpet out of my house, and I can already see a difference.
Get an air purifier too. Those work great.

3I don’t think that would work for you. You can buy plastic floor covers to go over your carpet though. They have little bumps on the bottom to grip the carpet.
I would treat the carpet before you cover it though, there are many chemicals and natural products that will kill those little buggers.

4you need to remove the carpeting – then lay a new floor – you can then toss down a washable throw rug…..also get rid of curtains if you have them

5It could but you would have to tac k the covering down good so the dust mites dont get underneath.

6You do not want to lay a floor over carpet. This is a very bad idea!
You can however lay carpet over a hard floor.
I would suggest ripping out the carpet and replacing it with Pergo.
This will surely help with your alergies! Good luck!

7Vaccum it everyday. It seems like carpet keeps the dust down instead of making things worse.

8Nope covering it will only trap them and allow them to stay and breed some more.Your best bet is to tear out the carpeting.

9linoleum would be better than carpet. in the meantime vacum daily, and when you wash your sheets add some menthol eucalyptus as it will eliminate a load of dust mites.

10I do believe that would be a good solution, but it wont work all the way unless you no longer use a couch and buy special coverings for your pillows and such. My sister had severe dustmite allergies, but you wouldn’t of suspected it by the symptoms,so I would strongly suggest going and seeing an allergist to find the probleme,
Good luck!

11Linoleum adhesive will not bond well to carpet. Not to mention that the expansion and contraction of the carpet can wreck your efforts. You’ve got to rip it up.
I have this same problem, and we installed laminate wood flooring (which looks nicer than plain old linoleum), and it helps. You would have to probably take everything out to install linoleum anyway, so do it right the first time and get rid of the carpet.

12I’d rip out the carpet first. Also, drink lots of water and green tea without sugar. Avoid all soft drinks.

13if you are sure you are suffering from those dust mites, get rid of the carpet. use a mop or damp cloth to wipe down your room. a vacuum cleaner just re-distributes the dust. check the air filter in your furnace. do you have enough humidity in your room?

14no, linoleum needs to glued to a smooth surface free of dirt etc. The carpet has lint, fuzz, dust, etc.in it and has different textures therefore the linoleum would not lie flat and would eventually crack.

15I’ve heard of people using some type of carpet cleaner that help eliminates dust mites, and vacuuming with a vacuum that has a good filter.
