I’m slightly allergic to maple and dog. But my allergy to dust and mites are so severe, that they were unable to be scaled because they were so high. I use an air purifier, enclosed my mattress, I take Calritin D, Zyrtec, vacuum using wearing a mask (we have an HEPA Hoover), and use a neti pot every day to relieve my symptoms, but it’s not enough. The symptoms bug me everyday and just get worse by the month. If I replace all my 20+ year old carpeting with hard wood flooring, will this make a drastic improvement in my allergies?

1It should. Carpets are a biggy on the allergies. Keeping all windows shut and doors sealed help too. You don’t want to let all the allergens into your house. Also covering your pillow case, vaccuum under the bed. I have the Dyson and it is much better than the Hoover for allergies. Also the Rainbow one is awesome, but very expensive. I think it is worth it in the long run. You still would want a vaccuum around for dusty areas on your wood floors. Excessive nick nacks are dust collectors. try to really get rid of things that collect any dust and clean out your home. Also cloth furniture is the worse, but I realize not everyone can get leather, but is has less problems. Vaccuum these too. Use cleaner that are environmental friendly.

4It should help, yes. Hopefully it will help enough so that the money and time you put into taking out your carpets will be worth it. Don’t do it yourself, though. I would think even with a mask it would be get into your eyes too much to be considered safe. It seems like a drastic measure. Good luck!

5oh my yes it wood! get it, i made a joke! but really it would help. i have server allergies and take more than you. you may want to try pseudoephedrine its a decongestant and the goverment NOW controls it do to it is used to make methamphetamine but you can still buy it and use in limited quanitys, t wooks great with my allergies and it will not make you sleepy.
also try: allegra, with your others, I do this also, switch meds daily as it helps and take more than recommended, because besides a toothache, alllergies are enough to drive a person insane, good luck!

6Air Purifiers are great. Oreck’s are pricey, but worth it (http://oreck.com). If you think your’s isn’t working perfectly check them out. Regarding your carpet…YES! definitely…get rid of it. You would be amazed how much gross, nasty stuff is trapped in your carpet…even if you vacuum every single day. It doesn’t matter how good your vacuum is. But, you will find that you will have to vacuum your hardwood much more, because the slightest grit will be annoying, but it should really help.
