   Yes, that will help. I too suffer from dust allergies, though not quite as bad as you. You have my sympathies. I replaced all my old carpeting in my old house with ceramic tile and hard wood and am slowly doing that in the present house. It does two things – it helps reduce the dust allergies, and it’s so much quicker and easier to just Swiffer up the dust bunnies than to run a vacuum. Plus, the Swiffer uses static electricity to grab onto the dust so far less is kicked up.

   Yes it will, but you will have to dust them every day! Carpets can hold dust etc, deep in them. A GOOD vacuum can help too if the flooring is not in the budget.

   Old carpet is nasty. All the old carpet that I have had to remove was full of dust, dirty, and unidentifiable material (yuck!). We installed laminated hardwood flooring throughout the house and it is generally just cleaner. The best part about the flooring is that it can be found reasonably cheap and is easy to install.

   Have you talked to your doctor about mast cell inhibitors (Intal, Tilade), or leukotriene inhibitors (Singular)? One or a combination of them might help you prevent allergic episodes.

   Between removing dust from your environment and using medication(s) that block mediators of inflammation from being released, I think you can improve your quality of life.
