We just moved from our apartment. It was a rundown place with carpets and old wood.
I have been bitten by bed bugs for the last month and a half. I didn’t know because I thought they were mosquito bites. I’ve had about 20 bites all together. When we went to move the mattress, I moved the sheet and saw 7 bed bugs sitting in the corner. They didn’t move away quickly, like I’ve read they would. They just hung out while I looked at them closely. I then saw staining on two corners of the mattress.
The mattress was purchased new and is 3 months old. We were sleeping on our landlord’s old mattress and headboard that he offered to us. (He said it was his as a child.) That’s where I’m assuming the bugs came from, as we travel.
We moved to a new, beautiful place with tiled floors, no wood, no carpet. We wrapped the mattress is a plastic cover and mattress cover. We threw out the sheets but washed the pillow cases in hot water and dried for 45 minutes. We kept the pillows.
Will it be easier to get rid of them now that we have moved to a place where they will have fewer places to hide?
Please help. We were so excited to move to our new place, but now we’re just stressed because we don’t want to give the new landlord any worries. I am so depressed.

1The mattress needs a zip up plastic cover for a year. The bugs can live for a year without food.
Wash the rest of the bed with alcohol.
Put boric acid powder under the bed and all over the floor and good along the base boards.
Wash things with some baking soda and a little less soap. Vinegar in the rinse water. Place in covered plastic boxes or sealed plastic bags,

2Assuming that the mattress was wrapped in a mattress cover that is labeled for control of bed bugs and you left all the rest of the bed at old place ( railings, etc.) then you should be fine.
A good product to spray your furniture that you took with you, this is under the drawers, under the dresser etc. is Bedlam.

3I’ve never heard of bed bugs surviving in a wood headboard. I think the culprit is actually your bed mattress. Some mattress companies are complete scams and reuse old mattresses they haul away. They just recover them with a little more padding and new fabric. If you didn’t get your mattress from a reputable store, I’d look into it.
