I woke up in the middle of the night last night due to what I thought was an allergic reaction. The roof of my mouth was incredibly itchy, my eyes were red and sore, my nose and throat was blocked up and my lips and tongue were swollen (they still are now). I took an antihistamine tablet which helped and meant I could get to sleep, but I am still wondering what happened. If it was a dust mite allergy, why didn’t it affect me yesterday?

1Swelling of the lips and tongue aren’t usually associated with allergy to dust mites.
Sounds more like something you ingested or used as part of your before bedtime personal care routine.
Allergy to the Der f1 and Der p1 protein (those found in dust mites and their feces) manifests itself with respiratory symptoms and sometimes eczema.
The only way to know for sure is to see an allergist or immunologist for skin or blood testing.
