The are related to spiders and ticks but microscopic. They are carried about in clothing from house to house and breed just like other creatures. They are common throughout the world.
Good question!! I would think that there ecosystem has been dust for so long that they co-evolved with us. I do not know their evolutionary history, but now will attempt to find out, though, more for my own edification than to answer your question.
