First, I noticed her eye watering. Not both, just one. Now, today, the side of her mouth and nose is swelling. I’ve been wiping her eye with a warm washcloth each night and it doesn’t water anymore, it just looks…painful. I’m providing photos:

I’ve checked her teeth, they’re normal, not overgrown. I thought at first that she was having an allergic reaction to her new bedding, but I replaced that with the old one (which is hypoallergenic). I don’t think she has anything stuck in her cheek pouch, because they are a little further back than where the swelling is. At the same time, I don’t think it’s anything really serious because she’s been like this for a week and if it were bad I don’t think she really would have lasted this long. She’s a really nice hamster, she hasn’t shown more aggression since the problem.
She is:
-clicking her teeth
-snuffling around her cage (little sneezes)
-not using her wheel anymore
-doesn’t seem interested in food but isn’t appearing to get skinny
-still likes to eat the apple pieces i give her
-still drinking water
Any ideas as to what might be wrong?
Thank you Alan. I have been leaving her alone for the most part. I started to wipe her eye when I thought she might be suffering from allergies, and a hamster website I read said that it would be good for the eye. I’ll stop now, though.
I have a question: is it okay to place a towel over the cage? My parents crank the air conditioner all day and I’m not sure there’s anywhere where she’d be safe from the draft.
Also, should I give her something extra like torn up towel bits, or is her bedding enough to keep dry and warm? It’s the eco-friendly "hypoallergenic" stuff (brown and zig-zaggy).

1Your hamster is suffering from a SEVERE cold infection. It has moved into her eyes, and the sneezes are a dead give away. Keep her dry in her cage..do not WET her as you have been doing..this is deadly. Keep her cage completely out of drafts and give her extra facial tissues to keep warm in. Don’t handel her much till she is better.Good luck.

51. Could have something stuck in her mouth,
2. she could be informing u that u have bad breath and imitating the sound of a tick tack hitting against the teeth also not eating to tell u to keep away from the garlic,
3. she is getting old and u shouldn’t worry much.

6Hmmm, this happend to my one of my old hamsters. We took him to the vet, and it turned out that it was just a cold. That can irated every thing practily. Now I DON’T think you’ve got really anything to worry about but if this does get any worse or it goes on for a while longer not doing anything. I suggest that you see a doctor. Now I can almost be sure of that your hamster is perfectly fine, and like I said probely just a simple cold. =3

8HI!
Try wiping her eye with a dry cloth so that it will get rid of the water all together.
Clicking indicates that the hamster is anoyed, it could be because you woke her up!
Sneezing: sneezing is normally caused by dusty bedding or a cold!
If your hamster is not getting thin then she must be eating, she probably eats it in the night. Or your over feeding her! Don’t give her to much fruit as they can get diabetes freom it!
She may not have enough energy to play on her wheel, or she has out grown it. try getting a slightly bigger wheel.

i think out of all the clues put together that she has a cold! Make sure that u move her cage to a warmer area and give her lots of bedding. Make sure she has a little bed to go in to keep warm and safe during the day! She should be back to normal in no time!
My hamster had a cold once but we turned the raidiator on and within two days she was back to her old self!
