The ONLY way to truly kill mites is with an UV-C lighting through companies like www.thebedmed.com

But, I run my feather pillows in the dryer with tennis balls periodically which will beat out dust, mites, etc.. although they are too small for the lint trap. I feel better thinking the heat also would not be good for bed mites or dust mites. The pillows do smell better and are fluffier.

This site recommends using hot water for washable linens and indicates that non-washable items should be put in the freezer. No indication that the dryer makes a difference.

I've always heard that the freezer is the only method for actually killing the mites.

I'd go with 20 min..... As far as itching, have you tried changing laundry detergents? Or have you just changed? Fabric softeners? You might be allergic to what you are laundering your bedding in. Or the manufacturer could have put a new chemical or scent in your regular brand that you are reacting too also. Body lotions, soap, shower gel? Change one thing at a time and see if you can narrow it down.

Dust mites don't make you itch, unless you have an allergy to them. As said, check detergent and softener
