It can be a number of things, bed bugs, heat rash, allergy, or something bigger like an inflammatory disorder.

It is possible that your skin is dry and sometimes red bumps will come up when something brushes it or if you can an allergy towards anything.

I have really sensitive skin and I am also allergic to the whole southern USA. My allergy index is 20 times higher than normal. (pretty bad, I had to get a series of shots).

For me, when a red bump appears on my skin due to its sensitivity or allergy it's simply because something is irritating it.

Since you've cleaned your bed and everything I would start to pay attention to what you're doing in the day time. Like, if you're walking around and something gets caught in your shoes or socks. Things can get stuck there and then get stuck on your skin and it'll irritate the heck out of it!

Sometimes the body's histamines and immune system take time to react. Like, I made a trip down to Galveston, TX once and I didn't know I was allergic to some flower there. The pollen got on my skin and then several hours later I had red welps all over me. They definitely looked like bug bites, but it was hives from an allergic reaction to some flower... :-\

What you can use to soothe it, I use Goldbond, their Intensive Relief Anti-Itch medicated lotion. It MIGHT sting a lot when you put it on bites or irritation just because of the amount of Menthol they have in it which is 0.5%, but after the stinging feeling goes down it gets REALLY cool and soothes sooooooo much. I totally swear by it, you should try it out. :D

If it it bed bugs, you have to get rid of the mattress and bomb your house. Bed bugs are extremely catchy. They will go to the next apartment. Do you have athletes foot?

Well, usually it is bed rash or heat rash. Just get rash cream and apply it everyday.

Does it feel like it's spreading at all? And does it itch at all during the day?

It COULD be scabies, basically a kind of mite that burrows under the skin which has an allergic reaction to them.

It may well not be this, but I've experience of it and it sounds similar to what you've said! it's easily treated though, but you should see a doctor asap as it's very contagious. If it IS scabies, then your boyfriend will have to be treated as well. They do most of their moving around at night-time and are passed on by skin contact.

Also, the symptoms for them don't actually appear until 6 weeks after you first get them! so again, if it is them, then your boyfriend may have them but not have had the reaction yet.

Best see a GP and get a professional opinion.
