We are planning to move into a place in a few days that we know the owners before us had bed bugs. They had to burn their mattresses and get rid of a lot of things. I’m wondering if we treat the whole place before moving in if we will have the same problem with them. Before moving in we could treat it with strong insecticides and have plenty of time to air out before we move any of our things in. Cover mattresses with zip up covers and pillows as well to get rid of the problem before it stops. I don’t know what to use to rid them effectively though. Any thoughts or suggestions.

1They like to stay in the walls and closets doing the day.
Cedar cide is used in hotels. It is sold online.
If you could find something with cedar in it.
Washing things off with rubbing alcohol will kill anything if it is there.
Some alcohol in the cleaner in a steam cleaner for the carpet.
Boric acid powder, made to kill roaches, from hardware stores might do it.
Or while in a hardware store ask if they have anything.

Kind of high. There are some cheaper 32 oz. bottles.
To be safe, it would be a good ideal to put clothes and material things in plastic boxes and sealed plastic bags.

2Hi there, while I have never encountered these little pests, I found a site with a lot of great information that tells how you can do it yourself!

Hope it helps and good luck!

3Getting rid of bedbugs often requires several things to be done and it is a combination of all of it in order to get rid of them.
things you will need: •Lots of garbage bags or XL Ziploc Bags.
•Mattress and box spring covers for each bed in the house.
•Vacuum cleaner.
•Washer and dryer.
•Exterminator.
after vacuuming everything, cover mattresses , washing everything that can be washed, call the exterminator.
Get the exterminator. There are many products out there that claim to get rid of bed bugs and if you want you can try them. However, many people report having paid for the do-it-yourself stuff and still had to hire and exterminator. It is fastest if you call the exterminator right away. (You can actually do this before beginning your cleaning regimen so you will be ready when he arrives). Follow all instructions carefully because bed bugs are very hard to get rid of and you don’t want him to have to come three and four times to get rid of them.
