I am looking into a gerbil for a pet. A few questions I had is are the hypoallergenic and do they shed a lot? Could I buy 1 or do they have to be with each other? What kind of home and bedding is best for them? Do they like human interaction? Thank you.

1I am not sure if they are hypoallergenic but they make great pets!! they love people and They do like human interaction. They best bedding is Carefresh colors bedding… Its better than the woodshavings because the dust gives them respiratory infections. They do prefer to be in pairs of 2 or 3 but if you really had to i guess you could have one… but it might not live as long. They DO NOT shed and they take care of there own fur. I think the The habitrail OVO is best because the tubes and tunnels are like a maze for hamsters. They live like that in the wild so thats why it is best.
Gerbils are great pets and You will LOVE to own one!! trust me!!

2Gerbils like to be in pairs because they are sort of a herding animal. they’d definitely do not shed alot. The best bedding would be any bedding with the picture of a gerbil on it
You have a fifty fifty chance of them not liking humans because of their small size they stress out alot. A good pet is a guinea pig because they like being alone and by themselves. they never shed. I hope i helped, good luck!

3Its always a good idea to get at least two gerbils, though its not necessary.
I have always used pine bedding in my gerbil’s cages and have not had any problems.
Gerbils are very active and fun to watch.
