Posted by admin as Hypoallergenic Bedding
k so whenever I sleep I wake up with my allergy symptoms. Now I know why this is but I was wondering how to sorta get rid of the dust mites. I looked at hypoallergenic bedding but I’m a teenager and all of it that I’ve seen is white so I would rather have something… brighter I guess? Well anyways any help is appreciated,I hate my allergies

1I have anti-allergy bedding. It used to be that anti-allergy bedding was all plastic-like and horribly uncomfortable and crunchy (and my parents made me sleep on that stuff when I was young). But nowadays they make it out of synthetic materials that feel almost like regular bedding.
I’m not sure what country you’re in or what’s available, but I’m currently living in the UK, and I use the Argos anti-allergy line: http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10001&catalogId=1500001801&langId=-1&searchTerms=anti-allergy&Submit=GO+%3E
That way the pillows and duvet themselves are anti-allergy, and I can put any color pillowcases and duvet cover I like. I just have to make sure to wash the covers every week.
Also, you can try Febreze Allergen Reducer. I think it smells weird, but it’s worth a shot. http://www.febreze.com/en_US/odor_problem/febreze_fabric_refresher_allergen_reducer.do
You could try anti-allergy laundry detergent too: http://www.onlineallergyrelief.com/laundry/laundry.html

2Get a damn good vaccuum cleaner (e.g. Dyson – they advertise that their cleaners get rid of mites) and get vaccuuming. Every day! That’s the only way to tackle mites.
Soap doesn’t help.

3I have a daughter with the same problem. I got allergy covers for her mattress and box spring and pillows…she just puts her regular sheets over the top of them….this has helped her so much. She also takes allergy medications (Claratin)

4Like many said already, a good vacuum goes a long ways for the room but there are a lot of dust mites in your bedding, I would recommend a mattress cover that is anti allergy, its the white cover that is under your normal sheets and can add some cushion too. then if you add in very high thread count sheets they will act as if it was anti allergy because the mites can’t get through a certain thread count. I think if my memory serves me well anything over 300 thread count will keep the mites out while keeping you even more comfortable!
Finally consider getting on an allergy regiment, such as Clariton or the like or even go to an allergist and get the good one a day stuff that’s used to prevent allergies not just stop the symptoms. Depending on how young you are you still might benefit from getting allergy shots to build your body’s tolerance to the dust mites and anything else you might be allergic to.
