Dust mites live on dead skin, normally found on stuffed animals, pillows, bed spreads, blankets, carpeting near the bed, etc. They were not discovered until the advent of the microscope, as they are invisible to the naked eye. Allergies flare up in some people as they breathe in the mite excrement, dead carcasses, and the mites themselves. Best to wash the bedding weekly, vacuum the carpet with a hepa vacuum, as well as vacuuming the mattress monthly. Blankets should be made of synthetic materials if you are allergic to them. They are found by the millions in bedding so do what you can to keep the numbers down by washing and tumbling your bedding. Good Luck

1Everyone has dust mites. They survive on skin cells and we all shed them all the time.
