I have been offered a free mini schnauzer puppy, who is three months old. I live with my boyfriend who is allergic to pet dander, but Schnauzers are hypoallergenic. I am a student teacher and am not able to spend a ton of time at home. We are currently renting a one bed room condo and the landlord said no pets, but when we called to say we were going on vacation, he asked who was taking care of our cat?!? WHAT! YOU MEAN I COULD HAVE A CAT!! Anyways, we are currently also looking into buying our own condo. Basically, I would like your advice as what to do. Should I accept the puppy or should I wait?

1I agree that you should wait. Since you are not allowed to have dogs you can’t rely that you will have your new condo before the landlord finds out. Puppies require a lot of training and it sounds like you aren’t able to spend that time with him. The last thing you need is pee and poop all over your rented apt.
There is no promise that any dog is hypoallergenic- even if they are "guaranteed" .

4Wait since you don’t have a place of your own nor the time to train or take care of a dog. Pet dander is loose flaky skin on a pet. All pets including Schnauzers have dander. We have dander also. Ask your boyfriends dermatologist what kind of pet he would recommend. Don’t be to surprised if he said none. You wouldn’t want your boyfriend going into an asthma attack because of your pet.

5Well, it would be really terrible if you accepted the puppy and then the landlord decided to uphold the "no pets" section of your lease. It would be unfair to the dog as well as the person who gave it to you. Get the landlord’s okay (in writing!) before you even think about accepting the dog. You will have to take it outside to potty, and puppies are not very quiet, so people will know you have one. After that, you need to work out a schedule so that someone can come home every few hours to let the puppy out until it is house trained and old enough to control its bladder while you are at work. You do need to have time to spend with the dog to train it and socialize it properly, too. If you don’t think that will work for you now, you can always get a dog later when you schedule gets easier. There are plenty of pets that need homes.

9NO! Dogs need alot of attention as a puppy and that would mean you would need to rearrange your schedule to spend time with the dog. They are a 13 year commitment and they want to spend time with you. They need to go potty, you need to feed and groom they and the need training and excerise, If you aren’t home its not fair to the dog. I would pass
