I have hard wood floors and it seems like there is always dust. I have a child and I am so worried there are dust mites. What is a good way to prevent them? I have become so paranoid lately about everything being clean, because she plays on her mat on the floor.

1Stop with the worry! Dust mites have been around a lot longer than humans! And they have not killed anyone yet. They eat dead skin that falls from bodies into dust..they do not bite you or children. Keeping a house too clean is as bad as too dirty! We are raising a nation of children with rising asthma rates, mainly due to too clean and sterile a surrounding! Relax and enjoy life.. Dust mites are harmless, are everywhere, and let your child be a child. Put away the Chlorox counter sprays, the bathroom sanitizers, etc. We were not meant to live in sterile surroundings, and if we do not get used to microbs, etc. as we grow up, we could have a very real problem.

6well u cant really get rid of them unless u move every human being out. 90% of dust is human skin cells.. just vacuum a lot!

7The sun kills dust mites.
Take your blankets outside and leave them hanging up in the sun for a good couple of hours.
Plus the wind / sun airs them out as well.
You can also do this with your doonas and rugs, etc

8Use a damp cloth on the floor. But really there's no need to worry. We have evolved together with dust mites. If we didn't have them we would be knee-deep in skin flakes.

9dust mites eat dust. which is mostly dead human skin. you really can't get rid of them. they aren't going to harm you. some people are mildly allergic. but they aren't on the floor. sun light kills them.
they are in your bed and pillows. the best thing for that is to buy hypo allergenic covers. as well as putting your pillows 15 minutes in the dryer will kill them and vacuuming your bed. sleeping with clothes on also reduces your exposure to them. you can reduce their numbers but you will never get rid of them as long as you have skin,
