Posted by admin as Hypoallergenic Bedding
my dad wanted me to clean my room today, which is totally fine with me, except, my room is very dusty. I’m always sneezing, I have a hypo allergenic pillow case and hypoallergenic bedding because the allergy is so bad. I’ve tried those masks to shield my face, and those are ok, but my nose gets kind of stuffy. (Unfortunately we happen to be out of them right now.) When dust without the mask on, I get very congested, I have a sneezing attack, my nose starts running like a waterfall, and my eyes get very red and watery. I don’t know if I should take one for the team and suffer an allergy attack just so I can get my room clean and please my dad, or finish the rest of my room, (because I still have a long way to go, and see if someone else will dust for me.) Thanks:)

1You should clean your room as best as you can, blow your nose out to get rid of any leftovers, and stay out of the room until things settle down. (cleaning agitates the particles). Using the paper disposable cloths might reduce your reactions.
Get some antihistamines!
You should make sure the bedding gets laundered weekly, and any other cloth in the room should be cleaned monthly. Add humidity to the room to keep the dust "heavier" and closer to the floor. Febreeze or other similar product should also help.
You should learn how to do this effectively; it will be ongoing for your whole life. You’re not cleaning your room to please your dad. You’re cleaning your room because it’s better for you.

2Are you taking medication. If not, you probably should consider talking to a doctor. You could be living a much fuller life, you know.

3i had a friend growing up who had dust mite allergies…she had to eventually get rid of everything in her room except for the bed and a dresser. She just had hard wood floors and no curtains, just a pull down shade. You may have to get rid of all the stuff in your room like that to control your allergies.

4Use Pledge Dust & Allergen spray, or the Dust & Allergen wipes. Use a towel like Swiffer Wipes that will hold onto the dust – not a regular paper towel that will knock that dust into the air. Try a wet towel over your nose, in place of the dust mask. Good luck with your room, sounds like it’s a mess.

5Dust and dust mites are two different things. This blog http://www.stlbeds.com/articles/2010/03/05/latex-deter-dust-mites/ may be helpful in explaining some additional things you can do.
