My son will be 13 months on July 29th. He has always been a great sleeper. From the time he was born he would go to sleep at night when I did and only wake up once in a 12 hour time span. I was truly blessed having a newborn that woke up only once a night. Then at 4 weeks he started sleeping through the night, we lucked out!
Now, is a totally different story. He hasn’t slept through the night in probably about 3 weeks. We’re feeding him before he goes to bed (still trying to break him from that nighttime bottle, well now its in a sippy but he still has that) and then he’ll wake up once at night to have another 8oz of formula and then has ANOTHER 8oz when he wakes up at 6am, then goes back to bed til 8 or 9 and wakes up and has a real breakfast. So, at 8, he has 8oz then at 3 or 4, then at 6.
Is this a growth spurt? He’s never really woken up in the middle of the night for formula except when he was a newborn so this is new territory for me. Is there something I can do to get him to start sleeping through the night again, or is this payback for the sleeping angel I had when he was born (LOL)?
Additional Info: I’m not sure if people would ask why he is still on formula, but I’ll tell so you know (although if you read my questions sometimes, you probably already know). He has a severe cow’s milk protein intolerance. We found right now the best option (recommended by the allergist and his pedi) was to move him off of hypoallergenic (alimentum) formula at 12 months and put him on Soy formula. He gets re-tested in December (which I’m sure will be positive for an allergy to Casein, the protein, again) and then we will take it from there if he is to go on Soy Milk or not.
I know it is not a comfort thing, because he’s never done this before it just started. He slept at his grandmother’s last night and didn’t do it, so I’m hoping for good news tonight!
Audrey’s Mommy- I was wondering if it was that but then it kept going even after all of his 4 molars were and all the way through. Is it possible it is still that though, that they still hurt?
He also has fluid in his ears but he doesn’t scream when he wakes up like with an infection (although he goes to the ENT on Tues), he just wants to eat and passes back to sleep.

1I hate to use the stereotypical response of, "he might be teething." But our children are just about the same age, and it is a totally different story when their molars start coming in. And when they are laying down all the blood flows to that area and causes pounding/discomfort.
My daughter is still a pretty good sleeper but we have been having a little trouble at nap time lately. And sure enough I felt her first molar poking through!

3it sounds like he just is a hungry fella or maybe since he never was in that ‘be fed every 2 hours’ phase he wants to be now…or he just loves u and wants to see u tons

4He should be able to sleep through the night without a sippy cup. It might be a comfort thing. You have to break him of the habit. My son would wake up for his bottle at six months and the doctor told me to let him cry himself back to sleep. He got enough nourishment throughout the day so he didnt need anything through the night.

5Both of my kids went through something like this around that age, we figured out that it was due to teething. my oldest was horrible for a couple of months. We used the night time oragel and tylenol.

6It could be a growth spurt, I have seen that with my children when they seem to eat like crazy for some time and then next time I look – I have to buy them bigger clothes. As for the formula thing – I don’t think it is all that uncommon for your child to still be formula at his age. Especially if he has allergies to cow’s milk. Maybe you are getting paid back! haha! My daughter wouldn’t sleep more than a half hour the first month or two, I am jealous! : ) Hopefully it is just a phase, good luck.

7I don’t know what the cause is but if your worried about all the formula maybe he is having trouble getting back to sleep without it… try cutting back to 6 oz. for a week then 4. He might not really be hungry it’s probably a comfy thing for him to top off. My little boy is the same way.
