I’ve been thinking of getting one of these to put on my mattress (under my sheets) to help me sleep.
Will these just end up becoming a haven for dust mites?

Yes it will. Foam pillows and the type of egg crate you are talking about just absorb dust mites. If you really want some type of topper for your mattress, they make hypoallergnic ones.
