Ok, I just read a article about dust mites and now I’m all disgusted and want to wash all my pillow cases and bedspreads. I know they can’t physcially harm you except allergy wise but it still sounds so gross, millions of bugs crawling all over you while your sleeping? Opinions?
Also I’m told that heat from the dryer can kill millions of them therefore reducing the population in your bed. What could you do about the mattress? Go over it with a iron?

1Yes, it’s true. The dust mite feces is what causes the problem of congestion and other allergies. It can also aggravate asthma.
Yes, washing linens in hot water and running in the dryer can kill the mites. However, we don’t normally throw our bedspreads or pillows or mattresses in the dryer, and that is where the mites nest and breed.
This is what you do: Wash all bedding, including the mattress cover.
Bomb your bedroom with a bug bomb to eliminate the mites presently there.
Even though they will breed immediately, you can prevent the spread of the mites by using the linens provided by this website:www.achooallergy.com. They have pillow cases with zippers, mattress covers and sheets, and other products. The linens are a very tight weave, that prevents mites from spreading to other areas of your bedding.

2it is nasty but normal…. if you wash your sheets and bedding regularly I would say you’ll keep them at bay…. Every few months I throw my pillows in the dryer for a 15 minute spin…. the heat will kill anything bad.

3You are right. Dust mites are disgusting. But you must understand that no matter how much you clean….there is definitely going to be some kind of bacteria around you. What is clean, even really really clean, may never be clean.
So, do your best in keeping your house, clothes and bed clean. That is all what you can do.

5I am sorry to tell you girlfriend that they are not only in your bed but also your couch, chairs, carpets, clothes, jackets, toys, cushions, shoes………the list is almost endless. Drying in a hot dryer for 45 min is one good way. Vacuum your furniture and mattresses weekly helps also. In the winter I put my cushions of my living room set in the car overnight as you can also kill them by freezing. These little mites are wherever humans are. Sorry !

6Yes vaccuum your mattress on both sides real good and the sides of the matress all the way around the mattress. They have this spray at K marts buy a couple or more of them and spray spray spray. This spray is for mites. I`ve went so far as washing my bed pillows. Secure them in a pillow case with pins and let them soak on a hot setting in your washer. I used oxiclean for my detergent. Then put them in the hottest cycle in your dryer. I know it sounds gross having mites did you see this program on tv about mites. It scringe me. Make sure you vacuum your matresses like a monthly job and you will feel better. Good Luck!

8You’ll probably never get rid of them completely. As the others have told you, washing bedding frequently and vacuuming the mattress are basic. Also – don’t forget to vacuum and dust UNDER your bed. Also, (esp if you have allergies) when you get a new mattress or pillow, encase them in zipper covers that are hypo-allergenic. Then maybe you won’t have to worry about them so much in the mattress or pillow.

9They sell matress covers that protect you from dust mites .My son has allergies so bad ,he gets shots twice a week .we use special matress covers ,but you can also vacume the bed ,run a hot blow dryer over the entire suface for about five minutes them replace you’re sheets ,and sleep easy. Or sleep tight don’t let the bed bugs bite quite literaly.lol
