my apartment is SO dusty. I’m trying to clean it up because it’s making me sick. I moved in and there is old furniture and stuff already there. I don’t want to get new furniture because I am only here until mid-december. What can I do to make this the cleanest, with minimal allergens?
also, I saw a little white-ish grey bug on my notebook today. Is that a dust mite? can you see mites?

1You cannot see dust mites. They’re very tiny.
Something that would help your situation a LOT is to get a HEPA filter and run it continuously. You can buy units that plug in the wall and sit in the floor just like a fan (take it with you when you move). You can order a HEPA filter from Amazon.
If you clean with a vacuum cleaner, make sure you have good quality bags. Cheap ones let a lot of dust through.
Cover your mattress with an anti-allergen cover. You can buy those from Amazon, too.
Your getting sick may not be just dust. It may be mold and mildew. If you live in a place with high humidity, or your apartment has been wet (like flooded or a leaky water heater), then you could have a lot of mildew. The only way to combat that is to clean the whole place top to bottom with Lysol, get rid of the old furniture, and run an air filter. And get moved as fast as you can, because if there’s mildew under the carpet or vinyl it’s hard to get rid of.

2Try covering the furniture with cotton sheets. Remove all old rugs.
