Skye my border collie has started licking her back feet lately so after a visit to the vet today,he said he was 99.9% sure that she has an allergy to dust mites.
He didnt give us anything for it because he said that off the record most of the antihistomines(sp) dont work, just to keep her bed Very clean & to hoover like a manaic.
Anyone out there excperienced this allergy before? what do you do to minimise the itch?
Shes on burns natural dog food,No fleas
He didnt do tests he said it would be a waste of my money because of the symptons he was so sure thats what it is
(his own dog has it)
Thanks for the answers still great info.

1my husky, bear has seasonal allergies that make him miserable. he scratches and chews his skin in spots raw. i have to treat him with prenisone and benadryl for 3 to 4 mths every spring and summer when it is hot out until the air is cold.i rub him down in dry skin lotion to help the crusts that form and then i scrape them off it is just a lotion for dry skin. i also use dog medicated oatmeal conditioner and rub it on and just let it sink into his skin. for ur dogs feet soak them in warm epsom salted water for 10 minutes a couple of times a day then pat dry and apply the cream it will help with the itchyness. a benadryl or steriod pill will help if it really starts to drive her crazy or gets really raw and red.i hope this helps a little. good luck.

What food are you feeding?
Are you using febreeze or air freshners? Do not use any kind of lysol, febreeze, or air freshners they are not good for you or your dog!!

3My dog, a shepherd has severe skin allergies and they did several patch tests to rule out things. Turns out she didn’t have the classic "mites" but they still tested — Did he? They can’t really tell without this. FYI – various steroids, like Medrol, prednisolone, etc can help get the dog over a rough patch and the topical sprays you buy at petsmart, etc. work really well. We have had to alter diet, use short courses of steroids and are still working on it, but I am impressed with how well the topical sprays and the steroids work.
