1. Queen of the Dust Mites

   DJ: Dust mites are microscopic creatures that feed off of shed human skin cells. Having dust mites does not mean that you are a bad mom or housekeeper. Everyone has dust mites in their house, it just so happens that your daughter (like me) is allergic to them. They like to be where it is warm, they prefer the dark (although they do not have eyes), and they need to be close to their food source. This is why our bedrooms are such a great place for them to live! Our bedding is full of our skin cells (humans unlike other animals shed all the time), and it is warm and dark in there. When your daughter goes into her room and into her bed, as she moves around a dust cloud is created with these microscopic particles that contain the protein Der f1. This protein is in the body and feces of the mite. Your daughter inhales the particles and they are misidentified by her immune system as germs. This causes the immune system to produce IgE, the mast cells to create histamine, and your daughter to feel poorly. You have to stop the exposure. I am going to give you some links to some great resources. The first site will tell you all about dust mites, the second site will take you step by step on how to set up a dust free room for your daughter, the third site is for this stuff I use to wash my sheets to get rid of the mites. I have severe dust mite allergy – hence the name ) -
   but by following the steps outlined at that site by the NIH and washing with the de-mite not only am I symptom free, but I don’t take meds on a regular basis anymore. Don’t feel overwhelmed, just take it a step at the time and both you and your daughter are going to be fine!

   make sure you clean her bed sheets very often that is the best way to get rid of dust mites! and also if she keeps stuffed animals put them in a trash bag and let them sit for a couple of days then take them out all of the dust mites should be gone after doing that if you go to an allergy doctor he will talk to you about the severity of your daughter’s allergy to dust mites and he will tell you what you need to do!

   I have a dust mite allergies. You don’t really need to look anything up. Is she really allergic? If she is sneezing and her eyes are itchy ext. then u should get an air filter for her room.

   I also have a severe dust mite allergy. As was stated before, remove all stuffies, remove all bed sheets, pillow cases and wash in hot water & dry weekly. Make sure when you strip the bed and vacuum in her bedroom she’s not in the room. If you can afford it, buy a dust mite proof pillow cover and coverings for her mattress and boxspring. And dust every stitch of furniture in her bedroom with a damp rag. Including blinds. They recommend to remove rugs, we can’t since we rent so I have a Dyson vacuum cleaner which does a pretty good job. I have run an air cleaner at night when I’m sleeping. Did they recommend allergy shots?
