2If you have a HEPA style vacuum clener, then I would recommend vacuuming the mattress at least once a month. Dust mites are microscopic, we breathe in their feces, carcasses etc., with every breath. A regular vacuum cleaner will spit the dust mites back into the air as they will come out the vacuums exhaust. The other answer ahead of this on is a good one.
