looking for advice on eliminating dust mites. I want to buy the special mattress and pillow covers and would like firsthand recommendations of websites or companies which sell products that actually work. Also, any advice on how to get rid of eczema would also be appreciated

1Ingrid: The sheets don't have to be special, but you do need the zippered cover for the mattress, boxspring, and every pillow on your bed. In addition it is important to keep the number of dust catchers in your room (like books and knick-knacks) to an absolute minimum. This makes it easier to keep the room clean. In addition to my zippered covers, I wash my sheets every Sunday with this De-Mite stuff. They tell you to use 140 degree water, but my water doesn't get that hot and even if it did, I don't want to ruin my nice sheets. I have severe dust mite allergy and the zippered covers, washing the sheets with De-Mite, and running my air cleaner make all the difference in the world.
I will give you a link to a page that tells you how to set up a dust free room and a link to the De-mite. My zippered covers came from the De-Mite place, and they are like a gazillion years old, so they have lasted.
You might find that once you control your exposure to allergies, your eczema goes away. Lots of people with eczema have allergies. Good luck. This really helped get my allergies under control so I hope it helps you too.

2I buy my product through National Allergy. They are of very good quality and they do work. I would reccoment a boxspring and mattress cover as well as a pillow cover.
They don't eliminate the dust mites, but the prevent them from getting to you through the mattress. You also need to wash your bedding every week in hot water to keep the mites away.
Get rid of any clutter in your room that collects dust. If it's a child, remove stuffed animals unless it's one you can wash with the weekly wash.
There is no cure for eczema. But there are lots of things you can do to try to minimize it. Bathing daily helps but you need to moisturize within 3 mintues of getting out of the bath or it will have a drying effect instead. Try using Hydrolatum cream (order it at your pharmacy) after the bath.
One thing that has worked wonders is an eczema sleepsuit that you can purchase through eczemaclothing.com. (these are for children but I'm not sure if you are asking about yourself or a child). They are expensive and shipped from England, but well worth it to try. The pajamas have the feet and hands covered so they cannot itch and make it worse. If it's for an adult, there is a pajama called "Dermasmart" which is wonderful for the skin at night.
Also, use a detergent free of any dyes or perfumes, like All Free and Clear. Do not use fabric softeners. Do not use soap in the tub. We just use a "Free & Clear Shampoo" that you can also order at your pharmacy.

3You've gotten good advice so far. I would even vacuum my mattress to help get rid of the dust mite dander.
