I currently reside at a dorm house (among others around me) which my host Uni provides here in Germany. I will soon be leaving the country in a month’s time. Ever since October 2009 (my first month here) I had noticed problems with my mattress. It is dark blue therefore one can not easily notice black excretion of possible bed bugs. I am pretty convinced I have an infestation, though not sure at all how large, because each time I would sleep on that mattress, even with 3 layers of bed sheets AND protective cover, I was still bitten and woken in the middle of the night or morning. This resulted in sleepless and anxious nights and red itchy little bumps anywhere on my body. I am not used to this kind of filth, and am sure that the dorm mattresses have not been cleaned or inspected for years… Since the first few times I was bitten, I decided to buy an air bed. This worked perfectly and I had no itching whatsoever. My question is, would the bugs be able to crawl on the floor of my room and reach me on my air bed? I don’t feel any itching while on my air bed. I am also consistently clean, though I did read that bed bugs don’t care about that. Another thing to mention, is that I have left a slightly large box on this bed among other things like a wooden-framed mirror that I use. The box is to be used to send off some of my belongings back home by post. Do these cause more bed bugs? Thanks for any help ![]()

1i seriously doubt that bed bugs could reach your air mattress unless they were on something that was on the bed and you moved it to the air mattress. then perhaps they could. if i were you i would try to vacuum the mattress as often as possible to get any bugs off of the surface of it. dont store anything on the bed that they could crawl into and infest. vacuuming each day should cut down on the problem. just remember to empty the container outside so the bugs do not stay in the house. good luck.

2Bed bugs hide during the day behind lamps, pictures, etc, and come out at night to look for a warm victim. Once one is located they attempt to suck the victim dry. They love blood amd bodily fluids. Your only hope is to call an exterminator. By the way, bed bugs travel from place to place in used furniture and bedding. Your belongings to be sent back home should be tumbled in a dryer before packaging them up in the inspected box and then sealed or you will be sending bugs to America.
