I'm not sure if my older bed has bed bugs or not, I wonder if I cover the bed with vinyl case would prevent them to come out?

Yes. These pests can find their way into, and out of, just about everything. I wouldn't recommend vinyl. Vinyl break down into formaldehyde, which as toxic, and a known human carcinogen (causes cancer). Look into getting one of those latex memory foam mattresses, they're bed bug and dust mite proof and hypoallergenic (except for latex allergy sufferers).
i dont know about dust mites but if you have bed bugs you can tell by looking at the underside of the bed. if there are black dots then you have bed bugs if there aren't any then you don't.
