Since my boyfriend and I have performed some renovations to our basement apartment, we’ve been getting horrible bites & rashes. I guess we stirred something up?
Our bedroom doesn’t seem to be affected [we even cut open the mattress to make sure..] its definitely something in our living room.
We had a blow up mattress that we would use sometimes when we were just hanging out & watching tv and we spent a few hours on it one night and woke up covered in rashes. He was far worse off [he would use it more often].
Anyway, the bites have calmed down…but I’m still getting them here and there and I think its starting to cause us to get sick. I’ve looked up bug bites online and they look very similar to those. ..The thing is, bed bugs are large enough so you can spot them… but I haven’t seen one! Judging by the amount of bites, there has to be a swarm of something. I know its not spider bites either… we don’t have a nest and they supposedly only bite once.
We got rid of the blow up mattress.. could there be bugs in the couch? It IS a basement "apartment" and we don’t have a kitchen to attract bugs.
Whatever it is, how do I get rid of it??? Are there any ways besides calling an exterminator right away?
We have NO PETS btw

1I would suggest that you both seek medical attention to get these bites checked out. A doctor can tell you whats going on.
If you leave these bites unattended then they could become infected and develop and spread into a major staff infection known as MRSA. This type of staff infection can end up killing you if it gets too out of hand.

2I have gone through having to deal with fleas (not that these necessarily are) several times. Rather than getting an exterminator I take my cat/dog (or borrow a friends) and cover them in bug poison (specifically for putting on cats/dogs of course). They wander around, draw all the bugs and kill them. One does over have to abstain from playing with the pet for awhile (or wash hands a lot).
