I moved into a new town home about 3 months ago with my two children. Not long after getting into the apartment my children and I were getting bit numerous times each night. I really thought maybe it was spiders or flea’s considering the people before us had pets. Well as the bites became more and more noticeable with each night i started inspecting my bed only to find large amounts of bed bugs had invaded my mattress! I instantly took my 1500 dollar mattress to the dumpster and called management. While on the phone they let me know that bed bug infestation was an issue with the building that I was in. I asked why I wasn’t notified and they said it had been bed bug free for 3 months. Now to me that does not seem like a long time to call it bed bug free? They also informed me that all costs of my ruined mattress and other personal belongings were left for me to deal with. They said that the soonest an exterminator could come in was a week later, and will not allow me to break my lease or be transferred to a bed bug free building. Do I have any grounds for a suit to cover my damage?
