Our 4-year-old kid has allergy to dust mites. Recently, he coughs and sneezes a lot after wakes up in bed each morning. He can usually get a good sleep during the night, and he is fine after he goes to school. If this is associate to his allergy, why he doesn’t cough during the night? What is the mechanism of early morning wake-up coughing and sneezing? How to prevent this to happen? I will certainly check with the doctor, but your suggestion is also welcome.

1Mucus builds up in the nose, sinuses, and throat overnight and when you wake up and move it can move too, and become an annoyance so you end up coughing, hacking, or sneezing to clear it out. It very well could be a symptom of his allergies.

2George,
Sometimes getting rid of the contaminants and dust mites in the air can help with allergies. I personally have allergies and my current air purifier does wonders to help cut down on the allergic problems that I sometimes have. I have used http://www.firstairpurifier.com in the past. Good luck!
