With dust, most people are allregic to the protein in the fecal matter of the mites themselves. You need to wash all pillows at least 1 once a week in hot water. Have your boyfriend buy some honey from a local health food store. Make sure it is from local bees in your area. This will greatly reduce the effect of local allergens. Buy an air purifier and make sure you vacuum with a hepa filter. You can also buy hepa filters for your vents. The are placed in front or on the inside of the vents in your home and can trap a lot of the allergens in the air before it circulates in the house (winter is the worst because of all the buildup in the ducts). Try and brush your pets regularly outside. Regular baths for them helps to keep the build up of skin and hair to a minimum. He might want to have the added support of a prescription as well. My mom is allergic to almost everything. With just a few minor changes there is a world of difference you can do, but most of get the honey it really works!

I was told i was allergic to my cat ....the best things you can do is keep your house dust and fur free as much as possible and if it gets unbearable tell him to take anti-histamines.

He'll have to stay away from them as much as possible, and you'll constantly clean your house/apartment and make sure there are no hairs lying around. I know because i'm allergic to animals, and I have a dog. This helps me a lot. We mostly keep him outside, so maybe put them out for longer if you're able to.
